SLiMS was developed by the Information Center and Public Relations Team of the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia. With the development of the SLiMS program which became more stable and smooth. Since 2007 until now SLiMS has grown very rapidly, while the versions of SLiMS are SLiMS 3.14 (Seulanga), SLiMS 3.14 (Matoa), SLiMS 5 (Meranti), SLiMS 7 (Cendana), SLiMS 8 (Akasia), and the latest namely SLimS 9 (Bulian) which was released in 2020. SLims developers use the names of flora in Indonesia because they hope that the release of SLiMS can be a learning medium for users to know the ins and outs of flora in Indonesia whose names are used as the code names for the release of SLiMS.

Libraries develop following the development of increasingly advanced technology, by utilizing technology, librarians can more easily manage libraries. One of the technologies used is SLiMS. To understand more about this program and all the features in it, the Library Science Study Program collaborated with the Library Science Study Program Student Association, Faculty of Humanity, Diponegoro University to hold a SLiMS 2021 national training webinar with theme “Reveal and Introducing SLIMS’s Newest Version 9 Bulian”, Saturday (30/10/2021).

The purpose of this activity is to provide knowledge about SLiMS 9 Bulian as one of the library management software, what features it has, its advantages and being able to optimize the use of this software. This year’s SLiMS training material was presented by Siti Rofiqoh who gave an introduction and installation of slims, then continued by Ibnu Fatkhan who gave an overview and implementation of slims features.

In SLiMS, there are two types of slims, namely slims installer (source code) and slims portable which can be downloaded at slims.web.id by ensuring that the browser used is the latest version. In its use, these slims can help the librarian’s work in carrying out tasks more easily and systematically, library activities can be well recorded, and make it easier for users to find collections of a library. “Skills such as graphic design, coding, and information systems are important for librarians today. Now there are many free applications that can be used, such as Canva for beginners, so you can move on to Photoshop or Indesign. Then look for a design community on Instagram or Telegram or tutorials on YouTube that we can follow to develop our skills, both free and paid.” said Ibnu Fatkhan.
