Semarang, February 14, 2024 Undergraduate students of Library and Information Science, Diponegoro University, have contributed to the development of the library at SMA N 4 Semarang through the provision of the Adiwiyata Reading Corner. This initiative is part of the IPI Undip student innovation program, which aims to improve the quality of literacy and environmental awareness among students. Four students from the Library and Information Science Study Program, Diponegoro University, underwent internship activities as part of the graduation requirements in the job training course, which was held at the end of semester 5. Through this activity, it provides an opportunity for them to apply the theories they have learned during 5 semesters in college. This internship was carried out for 34 working days, which began on December 23, 2024 and ended on February 14, 2025 and was attended by Tika Nadia Rahma, Aretha Hanny Patricia, Shofa Afifah Magfiro, and Virtu Ozo Fable Tchaikovsky. Their working hours are also in accordance with employee working hours, which are 07.00–15.30 for Monday to Thursday, while for Friday they finish at 14.00.

During their internship at SMA N 4 Semarang, IPI Undip students experienced an intensive learning process because the school library was in the revitalization stage. During the revitalization process, they also carried out weeding, then care and maintenance of collections, reinstalled slims, and updated social media @smapalibrary. During the internship, they had an initiative to organize an Adiwiyata Reading Corner that aims to improve the quality of literacy and environmental awareness among students. This initiative was welcomed by the head of the library of SMA N 4 Semarang: “We are very happy and grateful for the contribution of Undip students in providing this Adiwiyata Reading Corner. Of course this initiative is very beneficial for our students, as it can increase their interest in reading and awareness of the environment.”.

Meanwhile, some students who often visit the library of SMA N 4 Semarang said that they were enthusiastic to learn that the library has undergone significant changes, including the Adiwiyata Reading Corner. “Yesterday, I was confused about where to find Adiwiyata books because I needed them for an assignment, but now that I know there is an Adiwiyata Reading Corner, it’s easy to find,” said one student.

The provision of the Adiwiyata Reading Corner is one of the library development strategies carried out by IPI Undip students. Through this contribution from IPI Undip students, it is hoped that the SMA N 4 Semarang library can become a better information center and be able to support the Adiwiyata program being run by the school.
