Semarang 24 April 2025 – In today’s digital era, the ability to understand and use information technology wisely is a fundamental need. Digital literacy and digital ethics are two important aspects that must be owned by the younger generation to play an active and responsible role in cyberspace. As a form of commitment to increase awareness and understanding, lecturers and students of Library and Information Science at Diponegoro University held a community service activity at SMPTQ Pangeran Diponegoro Semarang, with the theme “Digital Literacy and Ethics Education for Students.”
Eighth grade students from SMPTQ Pangeran Diponegoro, predominantly female, attended this event. Mr. Rifky, an Ilpus Undip lecturer, and three Ilpus students, Virtu, Aretha, and Ilham, guided this activity. The first material was opened by Mr. Rifky, who provided material on digital ethics, and then continued by the three students who delivered content and practices related to digital literacy. In addition, they also inserted several points about digital ethics to strengthen students’ understanding.
The material presented in this education includes an introduction to digital literacy, which includes the ability to access, evaluate, and manage information effectively through digital devices. Students also responded well when given an understanding of the importance of keeping personal data safe and the risks they may face online, such as the spread of fake news (hoaxes), cyberbullying, and privacy violations. Students are invited to recognize the consequences of their actions in the digital world and understand the importance of building a positive digital reputation. After Aretha presented the material, she invited the students to practice digital literacy through guided games. One of the practices carried out is “Looking for Soap Bath,” which can be accessed through the following link. https://view.genially.com/63886e3835a6c00019bd1835/presentation-mencari-sabun-mandi
Through this community service, it is hoped that SMPTQ Pangeran Diponegoro students will not only become proficient technology users but also have ethical awareness and social responsibility in the use of digital technology. Thus, they can contribute positively to the school environment and society at large, forming a digital generation that is smart, wise, and characterized.
