Semarang (5/24) – In the midst of the onslaught of the increasingly rapid digital era, digital literacy is an inevitable need for the younger generation. Understanding this, Library Science students held a community service activity at SMPTQ Pangeran Diponegoro Semarang, with the theme “Building a Smart Digital Generation: Raising Students’ Awareness of the Digital World”.

The event was attended by students of class 8A SMPTQ Pangeran Diponegoro, the majority of whom were male. This activity was guided by Virtu and Aretha who Library Science students were tasked with teaching and practicing digital literacy to SMPTQ Pangeran Diponegoro students. In her presentation, Aretha explained various important points related to digital literacy, such as the definition of literacy, literacy in the digital world, the importance of literacy, the 4i method, and examples of implementation.

After the material was completed, students were then invited to practice digital literacy in the form of games guided by Virtu. One of the practices carried out is through Tutur Visual Kompas which can be accessed at https://interaktif.kompas.id

The students were enthusiastic during the material and practice. This can be seen from some students who ask questions and discuss with students. One of the students, named Faza, admitted that he was happy to participate in this activity because it was in accordance his hobby since childhood, namely reading books, which eventually became a good habit until now, namely always visiting the library or bookstore every weekend.

This community service activity is also a form of supporting the development of digital literacy among the younger generation. It is hoped that with this activity, students can become smart and responsible internet users, and be able to utilize information and communication technology for positive things.
