Boyolali (08/23) The Real Work Lecture Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN) by Wahyu Nugroho Jati (Jati), a Library Science student from Diponegoro University (UNDIP), Team 2 of 2023, has made a valuable contribution to optimizing the management of SD NEGERI 1 Kendel Library. The 5-day KKN program, held from July 24th to 29th, 2023, aimed to enhance the library’s operations, addressing challenges such as the unorganized arrangement of books according to subjects, the lack of book spine numbering, and the absence of a comprehensive book inventory system.

Jati, alongside the KKN UNDIP team, collaborated with the library’s management to identify fitting solutions. Their initial step involved categorizing books based on subjects, ensuring each book found its rightful place in alignment with its field of knowledge. Taking it further, Jati and the team assigned classification numbers to each book. This numbering system facilitated the library’s management in efficiently locating and identifying the owned books.

Once the categorization and numbering processes were complete, the subsequent step was a comprehensive inventory of the library’s books, including a count and assessment of their conditions. Finally, the books were methodically repositioned onto bookshelves or shelving units based on the predetermined classifications. This reorganization resulted in a more systematic library setup, easily accessible to students.

The output of this work program is an instructional module for school library management intended as a reference guide for the library’s management in executing operations at SD NEGERI 1 Kendel. This instructional module is anticipated to aid the library’s management in elevating service quality and refining library operations, aligning with the National Library Standards (Standar Nasional Perpustakaan or SNP).

Through diligent work and dedication, the KKN UNDIP Team 2 of 2023 has effectively contributed to managing SD NEGERI 1 Kendel Library. The hope is that the results achieved by Team 2 of KKN UNDIP 2023 will continue to provide sustainable benefits and inspire the future development of school library initiatives.
