Semarang (11/23) On Thursday, November 23, 2023, the Diponegoro University Library Science Study Program held a Guest Lecture with the topic “Leveraging AI to Support Teaching, Learning, and Research in Higher Education”. This event invited speakers from the Dean or Professor of the University of New Mexico, namely Dr. Leo. S. Lo.

In this event, Dr. Leo talks a lot about the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology which is becoming more sophisticated day by day and is widely used by society, especially people in universities. However, amidst the power of AI, there are several issues related to its development. Some of them relate to copyright infringement, and problems in the world of education related to cheating, etc.

Prof. Leo also explained several points related to the importance of AI literacy for educators, including librarians, as well as the need to develop guidelines for the ethical use of AI. In his explanation, Prof. Leo gave examples of guidelines for using AI in higher education institutions, which the Harvard Guidelines used in the US and the Russell Group Principles which are widely used by elite British universities.

Apart from that, Prof. Leo explained several challenges to academic integrity in the AI era as well as solutions to face these challenges. At the end of the explanation, Prof. Leo gave a case study at the University of New Mexico which was very interesting and could be an example for universities in Indonesia.
