Semarang (04/23) – The Library Science Study Program, Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Diponegoro University (Undip) held an Online Guest Lecture on Saturday (29/4/2023) at 08.30 – 11.00 AM. This event invited Prof. Dr. Paulina Pannen, M.LS as speaker. She teaches at Open University and University of Indonesia Lecturer. The topic of the guest lecture is “Special Writing Class: Understanding Research Methods to Produce Quality Research”. Participants listened to the explanation of the material that was provided. The question and answer session led by the moderator Virtu Ozo Fable Tchaikovsky, several participants asked questions to the speaker about the problems they faced when they doing research. One of the questions asked by the participants was “How to determine the research method that suits your needs”.
The material discussed was “Research Methods, Searching Articles, Journals and Papers and Tips and Tricks for Choosing Credible Information”. She gave the impression that it was fun and easy to do research with an illustration that research was done in everyday life, as is currently being done by many people is in making purchases in online shopping forums by doing simple research on prices, reviews, form of goods and so on before buying the items.
In addition, the Speaker explained the 3 stages that are always carried out by a researcher, namely ask, explore, and share. The content of the discussion in the guest lecture is an explanation of the concept map of the research process using the Chain of Reasoning in Research, giving advice on how to do good and correct research in a scientific approach, and interspersed with watching a YouTube video entitled “For The Birds” and a simple quiz which is an example of simple research and proves that research can also be done in a fun way.
She hoped that it could spark the enthusiasm of Undip library science students to continue learning and develop their abilities in conducting research. Furthermore, students can be encouraged to produce good research according to the guidelines in the field of Library Science as a form of contribution to developing students’ interests and talents and fulfilling one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely research.
