Even though they were conducted online via Zoom Meetings. The Summer Course 2022 events organized by the Library Science Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, UNDIP on the first day on Monday, August 22, 2022 have been running clearly without a hitch
“Cultural Documentation: Preserving the Indigenous Knowledge Traces, Building the Future Civilization” is the theme of this year’s Summer Course event. Participants were international in origin. The bulk of participants were from Malaysia and Indonesia, followed by Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, and Turkey coming in second and third, respectively.
Dr. Nurhayati, M. Hum, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP had the chance to launch this year’s Summer Course with a speech. We want to showcase local culture at this occasion, notably those of Semarang, Solo, and Central Java.
On the first day, Mrs. Katrin Setio Devi, S. Hum., M. Hum. as the speaker delivered the material and information about “Introduction to Semarang City: Culture, Arts, and Culinary”.
In her presentation, she explained that Semarang is a city with multiple rivers running through it, similar to Venice and Italy. As a result, it is also known as Venezia in Java or Veneti van Java.
She also described a number of Semarang’s historical sites. For instance, Sam Poo Kong in Simongan, Semarang, is noted as being the oldest Chinese temple and was constructed in the 15th century. Admiral Cheng Ho was a Muslim explorer from China, and this structure served as a memorial to him.
She then went on to explain some Semarang-related arts. In Semarang, there is a festival called Warak Ngendong that marks the beginning of Ramadan. Second, there is a traditional dance from Semarang known as Gambang Semarang. The Gambang Semarang dance, which tries to incorporate the heterogeneous society in this city, is frequently regarded as the essence of Semarang. The next event is Popokan, which is celebrated as a manner of thanking God for protecting people from natural catastrophes and other tragedies. Residents of the area planned this event by teaming up to clean the environment and undertake various activities like Noknik, Jatilan, and Reog.
The content was concluded by Katrin Setio Devi, S. Hum., M. Hum, who described the typical dish from Semarang, Tofu Dreads and Lumpia. A speciality from Semarang, tofu dreadlocks is made of fried tofu, raw cabbage that has been chopped, rice cake, bean sprouts, eggs, and dreadlocks that have been combined with peanut sauce and shrimp paste. While Lumpia Semarang is a dish that is served as a thin flour sheet topped with eggs, vegetables, chicken, or shrimp. Since 2014, UNESCO has additionally recognized this cuisine as a part of the national cultural heritage of Indonesia.
