Semarang (10/24), The Library and Information Science Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University held Studium Generale 2024 with the theme: “The Role of Libraries in Knowledge Preservation”. This event presented one of the lecturers of the Library Science Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, University of Indonesia as a resource person, namely Dr. Tamara Adriyani Susetyo-Salim, M.A. Studium Generale 2024 is a scientific meeting activity that aims to develop the insights of Diponegoro University Library and Information Science students. This event was held on Saturday, October 26th, 2024 online which was attended by all 2024 Library and Information Science students and some 2022 Library and Information Science students.

In her presentation, Dr. Tamara Adriyani Susetyo-Salim, M.A. explained in detail about knowledge preservation, especially in the context of libraries, such as why knowledge preservation is important in libraries, how to practice it, what tools can be used to preserve knowledge, ethical aspects in knowledge preservation, and challenges and opportunities in knowledge preservation, especially in libraries.

Dr. Tamara Adriyani Susetyo-Salim, M.A. started the presentation by first explaining that knowledge is a dynamic thing, so it is necessary to do some long processes to preserve the knowledge. Dr. Tamara Adriyani Susetyo-Salim, M.A. also provided quite a lot of examples of knowledge preservation in the form of videos and photos to help students understand the material more easily. One of the main points in the material presented by Dr. Tamara Adriyani Susetyo-Salim, M.A. is knowledge is power, whether the knowledge is tacit or explicit.

Studium Generale 2024 received a fairly good response from students as evidenced by quite a number of students giving feedback in the form of questions to the speakers. Studium Generale 2024 was quite successful in introducing knowledge preservation to Diponegoro University Library and Information Science students, especially new students of class 2024. This is in line with the main objective of Studium Generale 2024, which is to develop the insight of Diponegoro University Library and Information Science students. Studium Generale 2024 was closed with a message from Dr. Tamara Adriyani Susetyo-Salim, M.A. who mentioned that the practice of knowledge preservation can be applied to everyday life close to students. Then, students can try things that will have more influence, such as making writings or publications related to knowledge preservation.
