Magelang- On Sunday (28/7/2024) and Satuday (3/8/2024), a Family Archive Maintenance Training entitled “Arsip Tertata Keluarga Sejahtera” was held in Bulurejo Village. This activity is part of the Monodisciplinary Work Program initiated by Tri Indrawati, a KKN student from the Diponegoro University Library Science study program. The training was attended by housewives who are members of the PKK Bulurejo Village with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of maintaining important family documents.

In this training, the latest changes in civil registration, which now uses HVS A4 paper in accordance with Permendagri Number 109 of 2019, were highlighted. The material covered how to maintain important documents such as birth certificates, family cards, and marriage certificates to keep them in good condition and durable. One of the maintenance techniques introduced was encapsulation, which is considered more effective and safer than laminating.

Trainees were also taught how to perform digital data backups of important family documents using scanner apps such as CamScanner and storing digital files on cloud storage services such as Google Drive. This way, housewives can ensure that digital copies of their important documents are safe and easily accessible at any time. The importance of organizing digital files was also emphasized to facilitate future searches.

The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from the many questions asked and active participation in the discussion and hands-on sessions. One of the questions raised was how to deal with yellowed and moldy documents, which was answered with an explanation of paper bleaching techniques. The housewives were also given encapsulation materials to take home, so that they can practice this technique on other family documents at home.

The “Organized Archives for Prosperous Families” program is expected to raise awareness of the importance of family document preservation in Bulurejo Village. With the knowledge and skills gained, the housewives can take better care of their important family documents and spread this knowledge to other community members. This program not only provides immediate benefits to the participants but also has the potential to have a positive long-term impact on the community as a whole.
